Bare Bones Software Releases BBEdit 10.5
Retina Ready, New Go Menu, Plus Functions for Faster Navigation Throughout

NORTH CHELMSFORD, Mass. – Dec. 4, 2012 – Bare Bones Software today announced the release and immediate availability of BBEdit® 10.5, an update to its professional strength HTML and text editor.

BBEdit 10.5 now looks sharp on Macs with high-resolution Retina displays. In addition, BBEdit 10.5 introduces a new Go menu, new per-project website configuration and support for basic deployment, new Preview Filters and more.

“BBEdit looks really sharp on a Retina display,” said Rich Siegel, founder and CEO of Bare Bones Software, Inc. “While any customer with a Retina Mac will appreciate this, we also took the opportunity to add a number of new features, so that we could release a robust update that offered something useful for everyone. If there isn’t something in 10.5 that excites you, check your pulse.”

The new Go menu expedites navigation within documents, providing quick access to a Functions palette, a Jump Points palette and to any named symbols in a file — all new in version 10.5. The Functions palette presents a continuously updated listing of functions defined in the active document. The Jump Points palette presents a history of movement within the active document, providing an avenue to quickly revisit locations.

Now, projects can be configured as “Web Sites” via a new menu in the project window’s action bar. The Site Settings sheet offers easier management of site-wide document settings, HTML syntax checking rules and other relevant details. A new Deploy Site command enables uploading the entire site to an FTP or SFTP server, and provides for site-wide syntax checking and template processing in advance of the upload.

The Preview in BBEdit command now supports preview filters that can process a document’s contents before displaying them in a live Preview window. Preview filters can be implemented as Unix scripts, compiled Unix executables, or AppleScripts.

Employing capabilities only available on Mac OS X 10.7 and 10.8, the new Compare Against Previous Version command uses system-level file versioning for quick access to, and comparison with, previously stored versions of the active document. Enhancements to the Markup Builder panel provide easier access to linked files and images when composing markup.

BBEdit 10.5 includes several new command keystroke equivalents and keyboard navigation adjustments to provide additional comfort for refugees from other platforms. BBEdit 10.5 also includes other refinements and fixes for specific reported issues in this award-winning HTML and text editor.
