Bare Bones Software Releases TextWrangler 3.0
New Direct Editing in Browser and Results Windows, Non-modal Find and Multi-File Search, Improved FTP Performance, and More
BEDFORD, Mass. – August 25, 2009 – Bare Bones Software today announced the release and immediate availability of TextWrangler™ 3.0, a major update to the award-winning text editor.
TextWrangler 3.0 introduces direct editing within disk browsers and search results windows, as well as non-modal Find and Multi-File Search windows. TextWrangler 3.0 also offers significantly improved FTP performance, an overhauled FTP/SFTP user interface, revamped Ruby and JavaScript language support, and numerous other improvements to the built-in programming language support.
TextWrangler’s search and replace power is now channeled through modeless Find and Multi-File Search windows, which sport new options and still offer extensive keyboard controls for streamlined operation. The Find Differences command now generates more usable results for file comparisons, and now supports reviewing and applying discrete differences that occur within lines.
This new version introduces a revamped interface for working with files via FTP and SFTP, significant improvements to FTP file transfer performance, and workflow refinements for and multi-file searching.
TextWrangler 3.0 brings substantial improvements in Ruby and JavaScript language support. The Objective-C and Objective-C++ modules have been updated with additional language keywords; and the Java and Python modules have also been significantly enhanced.
TextWrangler 3.0 can now directly browse the contents of Unix “tar” files, and transparently read and write bz2 compressed files. A new Document Statistics display presents the number of characters, words, and lines in each text view’s status bar.
TextWrangler 3.0 also includes fixes to reported issues and significant refinements to this popular, general-purpose text processing tool. Detailed information on all of the changes and improvements implemented in TextWrangler 3.0 can be found at:
