OS Compatibility
Apple silicon Compatibility
The current shipping versions of our products run natively on Macs powered by both Intel and M1 (and newer) processors:
- BBEdit (latest: 15.1.2)
- Yojimbo (latest: 4.6.3)
- TextWrangler will not run on Apple silicon. It has been sunsetted, and is now part of BBEdit. Learn more here.
We recommend that you use the latest available versions of BBEdit and Yojimbo.
All current versions of our products are 64-bit native and compatible with the requirements of macOS 10.15 and later.

macOS Sequoia (15.x)
The following versions of our products are supported for use with macOS 15 “Sequoia”:
- BBEdit 15.1.2
- Yojimbo 4.6.3
- BBEdit versions prior to 14.6 will not run on macOS Sequoia.
- TextWrangler is not compatible with macOS Sequoia.
TextWrangler has been sunsetted, and is now part of BBEdit. Learn more here.
If you are using an older version of BBEdit, please update or upgrade as necessary.
macOS Sonoma (14.x)
Due to bugs and regressions in the initial macOS Sonoma releases, we recommend that you use only macOS 14.3 or later. If you are currently using an older Sonoma release (14.0 – 14.2.1) we recommend that you update to 14.3 or later at the earliest opportunity.
The following versions of our products are supported for use with macOS 14 “Sonoma” (with the above caveat in mind):
- BBEdit 15.0
- Yojimbo 4.6.3
- BBEdit versions prior to 14.6 will not run on macOS Sonoma.
- TextWrangler is not compatible with macOS Sonoma.
TextWrangler has been sunsetted, and is now part of BBEdit. Learn more here.
If you are using an older version of BBEdit, please update or upgrade as necessary.
macOS Ventura (13.x)
The following versions of our products are recommended for use with macOS 13 “Ventura”:
- BBEdit 15.0
- Yojimbo 4.6.3
- TextWrangler is not compatible with macOS Ventura.
TextWrangler has been sunsetted, and is now part of BBEdit. Learn more here.
If you are using an older version of BBEdit, please update or upgrade as necessary.
macOS Monterey (12.x)
The following versions of our products are recommended for use with macOS 12 “Monterey”:
- BBEdit 15.0
- Yojimbo 4.6.3
- TextWrangler is not compatible with macOS Monterey.
Due to compatibility issues in the OS that we have worked around, please make sure that you are running macOS 12.2.1 or later.
TextWrangler has been sunsetted, and is now part of BBEdit. Learn more here.
If you are using an older version of BBEdit, please update or upgrade as necessary.
macOS Big Sur (11.x)
The following versions of our products are recommended for use with macOS 11 “Big Sur”:
- BBEdit 15.0
- Yojimbo 4.6.3
- TextWrangler is not compatible with macOS Big Sur.
TextWrangler has been sunsetted, and is now part of BBEdit. Learn more here.
If you are using an older version of BBEdit, please update or upgrade as necessary.
macOS Catalina (10.15)
The following versions of our products are recommended for use with macOS 10.15 “Catalina”:
- BBEdit 14.6.9 (see note below)
- Yojimbo 4.6.3
- TextWrangler is not compatible with macOS Catalina.
TextWrangler has been sunsetted, and is now part of BBEdit. Learn more here.
If you are using an older version of BBEdit, please update or upgrade as necessary.
Due to compatibility issues in the OS that we have worked around, we recommend against using any version of our products older than those listed above on macOS 10.15. Please make sure that you are running macOS 10.15.7 or later.
macOS Mojave (10.14)
The following versions of our products are recommended for use with macOS 10.14 “Mojave”:
- BBEdit 14.1.2
- Yojimbo 4.6.3
- TextWrangler is not compatible with macOS Mojave.
Note: BBEdit 14.1 requires macOS 10.14.2 or later.
TextWrangler has been sunsetted, and is now part of BBEdit. Learn more here.
Due to compatibility issues in the OS that we have worked around, we recommend against using any version of our products older than those listed above on macOS 10.14. Please make sure that you are running macOS 10.14.6 or later.
macOS High Sierra (10.13)
The following versions of our products are recommended for use with macOS 10.13 “High Sierra”:
- BBEdit 12.6.7
- Yojimbo 4.6.3
- TextWrangler is not compatible with macOS High Sierra.
TextWrangler has been sunsetted, and is now part of BBEdit. Learn more here.
Due to compatibility issues in the OS that we have worked around, we recommend against using any version of our products older than those listed above on macOS 10.13. Please make sure that you are running macOS 10.13.4 or later.

macOS Sierra (10.12)
The following versions of our products are recommended for use with macOS 10.12 “Sierra”:
- BBEdit 12.6.7
- Yojimbo 4.1.4
- TextWrangler has been sunsetted, and is now part of BBEdit. Learn more here.
Due to bugs in the OS that we have worked around, we recommend against using any version of our products older than those listed above on macOS 10.12.
