macOS Sonoma Compatibility Note
Important information for BBEdit customers
Due to bugs and regressions in the initial macOS Sonoma releases, we recommend that you use only macOS 14.3 or later. If you are currently using an older Sonoma release (14.0 - 14.2.1) we recommend that you update to 14.3 or later at the earliest opportunity.
macOS Sonoma will not run versions of BBEdit older than 14.6. If you attempt to run a version of BBEdit older than 14.6 on macOS Sonoma, the OS will advise you of this with an alert; confirming the alert will forcibly exit the application.
If you are currently using a version of BBEdit older than 14.6, and are planning to update to macOS Sonoma, we strongly recommend that you update or upgrade (as appropriate).
BBEdit 14.6.9 is available as a free update for all BBEdit 14.x customers. You can obtain it by choosing "Check for Updates" from the BBEdit application menu, or by downloading and installing it from the BBEdit updates page on our web site: https://www.barebones.com/support/bbedit/updates.html.
Customers using BBEdit 14 are also welcome (but not required) to upgrade to BBEdit 15.
Note that if you purchased a BBEdit 14 license on or after July 1, 2023, you are qualified for a free upgrade to BBEdit 15.
If you are using an older version of BBEdit and are planning to upgrade to macOS Sonoma, you will need to update or upgrade your installed version, as appropriate:
If your 30-day evaluation has previously expired, you will get a new 30-day evaluation period after installing BBEdit 15 from our web site: https://www.barebones.com/support/bbedit/updates.html. This is a fine opportunity to try out all of the new features that we introduced since the version you've been using.
If you have a license for an older version of BBEdit (13.x or older), you can download and start using BBEdit 15 immediately. You'll have 30 days of fully functional operation, and can obtain significantly discounted upgrade pricing from our web store: https://www.barebones.com/store/bbedit_upgrades.html.
